Women’s Sports Stars Showcased in Sky Sports New Editions

Published on: 04/10/2023

Sky Sports has launched a long-form YouTube series titled Editions. Focusing on famous sportswomen, each episode of the new show will feature an in-depth conversation with a female athlete as they style and direct their magazine cover shoot.

The first episode stars the Lionesses World Cup captain and Chelsea star Millie Bright. She discusses her family, her relationship with Emma Hayes and her mental health on and off the pitch.

The 30-year-old also tells reporter Emma Saunders how pulling on the armband to lead her country felt. The impact of her family, her feeling of home at Chelsea FC and why playing for the Lionesses helps bring about change for the reputation of women are other topics that are discussed.

The Movers and Groovers in Women’s Sports

Available on the Sky Sports YouTube channel, Sky Sports’ Editions is described as “a blend of sport, fashion, lifestyle and culture, centred around the biggest stars of women’s sport.” The series gives a candid access-all-areas look at some of the most prominent personalities and change-makers in women’s sport.

“Each episode captures an in-depth conversation as the athlete reflects on what has made them who they are today and shares insight into the highs and lows of their careers and personal lives – reflecting the character, style and experiences of each sportswoman,” says Sky.

The sports broadcaster has launched the YouTube docu-series ahead of the return of the 2023/24 Women’s Super League season live on Sky Sports. Sky Sports F1 presenter Naomi Schiff is the new series’ lead host.

The 29-year-old with dual Belgian/Rwandan nationality had previously co-hosted a SkyF1 YouTube show called ‘Any Given Monday’. After 40 episodes, the show last appeared on air in December 2022.

Shining a Light on the Superstars

Ahead of the new show’s launch, Sky Sports head of women’s sport, Jo Osborne, said: “Women’s Sport is full of incredible athletes and personalities who entertain us on our screens every week.”

“Sky Sports Editions aims to shine a light on some of these superstars and help them to show a side to themselves they don’t often get to share. And, as women’s sport increasingly becomes part of mainstream culture, learning their stories through their style feels like the perfect way to do it.”

Future Editions episodes will include interviews with unified three-belt boxing champion Natasha Jonas and England Netball shooter – and player of the tournament at the 2023 Netball World Cup – Helen Housby.

Racing driver, three-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick, and representing cricket, the world’s number one IT20 bowler, Sophie Ecclestone, will be amongst other future guests.

In addition to Sky Sports YouTube channels, Refinery29 – an American multinational digital media and entertainment website focused on young women – will also broadcast Editions episodes as part of a content partnership with the UK’s dominant subscription television sports brand.
